Happy Sunday!
I recently had the pleasure of visiting beautiful Bordeaux, and even though it was three short days, and zero degrees, I couldn’t recommend it more for a cultured mini-break.
Not only that, I was lucky to have the best company- even better, they were regular visitors so had some great tips – which I wanted to share with you!
A small skip and a jump away…
With Paris being a dream spot for many travellers, you can find it bustling with tourists, but it’s easy to escape the city and arrive by train in just over two hours. If you prefer to fly, there is Bordeaux-Mérignac airport, which receives direct flights daily. If you’re lucky to be able to visit both, I would recommend the laid-back vibe of Bordeaux as a great way to end a romantic, beautiful trip – room for one more :)?
Bon appetit!….
Moving onto my favourite topic…food…we were more than happy to try out the local cuisine of cheese and wine.
We went to L’Autre Petit Bois, which is in the centre of town but resembles a winter garden, serving Amazing food in a cosy, relaxed atmosphere. Perfect for watching the hours go by on a Sunday evening.
If you’re a fan of markets, head to Marché des Capucins, there’s a great choice of cuisines and each stall has their own seating area. My favourite was Sushi Tom, great for when you want something lighter after alllllll the cheese!
Not forgetting the Wine!…
Visiting a vineyard is a must!!! As Bordeaux is famous for its wine, no trip is complete without having a tour around one of the beautiful chateaus that surround the city. We visited a gorgeous family run chateau called Château d’Angludet, which made us feel like we were in a fairy tale. Our trip included a tour of the whole vineyard whilst sampling the delicious wine. We couldn’t help but fall in love with the owners, who were passionate and enthusiastic with their expert knowledge.
Beautiful and protected…
Bordeaux is classified as a UNESCO heritage site, due to its rich historic architecture. There’s so much to see, but it’s best to explore by foot or by bike. We hired (and spent hours getting lost on cobbled streets) bikes from Bordeaux metropole bikes for only €2 an hour. Head over to the other side of the river, where you’ll find Darwin – an alternative space created from a former military barracks. This sustainable development acts as an incredible ‘economic hub’ where you’ll find anything from shared gardens, graffiti art, Bistrot-dining, wellness centres, and even a skate park. With so much to see and do in this area, it’s easy to spend half a day exploring.
It’s the perfect getaway for a small group of friends, couples, or even a place to immerse and get lost travelling alone. If you have any questions or recommendations (e.g. Great restaurants) – Please feel free to comment below. Plus there’s plenty of tips, help and information from the Bordeaux tourism website.
Thank’s for reading, keep up to date with more travel recommendations coming soon. Xx Kay
